MINUTES OF THE 22nd ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

23rd November 2010.

 In the Absence of the President, Norman Alm chaired the meeting.

Presidents Report

The Chairman read  Anne Davies report in which she reviewed the year’s activities and thanked the committee members and the community for their continuing support in what had been a busy and successful year. A copy of her report is attached to these minutes.

 

Treasurers Report

Margaret Carr presented the annual accounts for the Year to 22nd November 2010. She explained the various entries and answered a number of questions. The Accounts were unanimously approved by the meeting.

 Election of Office Bearers

All of the office bearers were available for re-election and they were re-elected. John Barton has retired from the committee and was warmly thanked for his service. Two new members,John Mcleod and Tricia Neville,  were unanimously approved..

 OTHER REPORTS

 Breathing Places

This is separately reported later in the meeting. 

Field Names.

This is an ongoing activity and a list was displayed . Members are asked to pass on any names and memories to assist the compilation of the old field names in the area .

Oral History.

Work is now well underway in extending our interviews into the second half of the 20th Century.

Scrap Book.

The community should continue to let Yve Duncan  have any press cuttings and other information concerning Abernyte.

 FUTURE PROGRAMME

Parish Walk.

The annual walk is planned to be held on Saturday 9th April 2011. The committee will organise a route and advise those interested well in advance.

 

Annual BBQ.

It is planned to continue holding the BBQ on the first Friday of the school Autumn term (19th August 2011)  .

 

 

Mary Young Memorial Lecture

The committee have decided that our Annual Lecture will in future be dedicated to Mary.

The first of these will be held in conjuction with CACE in the hall at Glencarse on Wednesday 9th February 2011 when the speaker will be Prof. Charles McKean. A large attendance is expected.

In future years the Mary Young Lecture will most likely be held in the school.

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 Thereafter several items of Common interest with the Community Company were discussed.

 

BREATHING PLACES PRESENTATION

Barry Caudwell gave a presentation on the project and outlined the progress in the past year. He then explained the various species found, the surveys carried out and planned , and drew attention to the success in attracting wildlife.. He finished by encouraging all visitors to note what they saw and found , and to keep up the reports on wildlife on the web site

 

PLANNING AND BOUNDARIES

Malcolm McSwan  reported that the Braes of the Carse Conservation Group had recently held a meeting to brief people on the Main Issues Report which was now out for consultation.

 COLLECTIVE PURCHASE SCHEMES

Stephen Hole reported that the collective Oil Purchase scheme was now operating successfully. At this stage it is restricted to residents close to the viilage.

It has been suggested that a similar scheme could be introduced for logs for woodburners. A survey will be carried out to determine interest.

 

WHATS ON

Stephen also reported on the continuing popularity of the WHATS ON e-mail service. There are now 115 subscribers and 212 messages were circulated last year. After discussion it was agreed to change the name of the service to NEWS @ ABERNYTE.
