It is clear from various conversations around the village that the broadband speed that we all receive can vary wildly.
There are a number of factors that play on broadband speed. The quality of the BT line to your house from the BT exchange, the quality and nature of the internal telephone wiring in your home, the type of equipment that you use to transfer the signal in your home and last - but certainly not least - what your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is doing to your connection and the type of package you are on.
Broadband speeds are measured in Mbs per second with 6 to 7 very good and less than 1 very poor. One way to measure your broadband speed is to use a broadband speed test. It is a simple on screen process which will give us a comparative result across the village.
What I propose is that we all use the same test at
www.speedtest.net/
Simply go to that site and:
1 Click on the orange star on the map
2 wait 30 seconds or so for the test to finish
3 In the box that has the result, there is a button "copy forum link" click on that.
4 Open this forum, click the reply button and right click in the message box and paste the result into a new reply in this topic.
We will then find out if we should be shouting at BT for the poor line quality or at our individual ISP for the poor service they provide.
