AGM update for www.abernyte.org
This update covers the period from 1.1.10 to 5.11.1009
The community website has maintained its status as a popular and high quality community website.
As last year, we have attracted just over 4000 unique visitors (4785 to be precise) on the top of the repeat traffic from the regular users.
The total number pages served over the year was 58567
I have continued the constant process to ensure the software is up to date to ensure the security of the site from attack. The development and updating of the software is very much a “Forth Bridge” process that can never stand still.
Xcalibre, the web hosting company that we used since the sites inception was taken over during May 2010 by Webfusion and our account was transferred to them. During the 6 years or so that Xcalibre hosted the site I can recall few if any periods when the site was unavailable. Since May 2010 it has now happened on four occasions. All were technical faults at the web host and were rectified quickly and apologised for, the last being a complete loss of all site data in a server failure.
They remain a competitively priced web host for us but I suggest that we monitor the situation with a view to changing host next year, if the performance does not improve.
The vast bulk of our visitors continue to be from the UK, with the USA and France supplying most of the rest. We continue to attract a small number of regular visitors from other parts of the world and in the past year it has been from South Africa, Japan and China.
The biggest puzzle is our regular visitor or visitors from China who I reported last year are regular visitors to the Gallery. This year it has been the census and graveyard records as well. Someone is tracing their ancestors!
I am grateful to the Community Company committee for their continuing support and encouragement in keeping the website running.
As always, should anyone wish a feature or information included in the website please contact Gordon on 01828 686677.
