Biodiversity Meadow Trial at Rait Churchyard.

I am writing to inform you that at the Environment Committee on 28 January 2009, approval was given to hold trials where the grass would be managed like a meadow in some parks to enhance biodiversity. One of the cemeteries chosen for the trial is Rait Churchyard.

At present all the grass is cut regularly on a two week cycle, the proposal is to reduce the frequency of grass cutting in the sloped area towards the south of the churchyard. The proposal is to cut the grass twice a year in July and September and remove the cuttings. In addition to the changes in grass management it is proposed to plant a hedge which will attract birds round the north and east boundaries to enclose the churchyard.

An important aspect of the trials is gauging local opinion on the changes to grass management and I hope the Community Council will be able to assist me with this. I will be on site at Rait Churchyard on Friday 27th March 2009 at 11:00 with the Ground Maintenance Officers to discuss and agree the proposed changes to management to improve biodiversity within the churchyard and I will be available if a representative of the inchture Community Council wishes to meet me at that time. Alternatively, if you would like me to attend a meeting of the Community Council to answer questions about the proposals I would be pleased to receive an invitation.

I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

If you are able to attend I will pleased to answer any questions you may have, otherwise feel free to contact me with any concerns or comments.
