The Chess Club season concluded at the end of March but will resume again on Thursday 2nd September. The Club meets in excellent facilities at the Inchture Hotel and anyone is welcome. Coaching is provided for all standards of players.
The Junior Club Championship was again won by Adam Legge who scored 10.5/12 pts, closely followed by Qing Qing Zhu, Calum Pretious, Ramsay MacDonald, Thomas van Aalten and Sam Owen-Hughes, all with + scores. There were excellent performances by many of the younger members and Erasmus MacKenna won the lower rated section with Louise Carr in second place
In the second part of the season, there were two smaller junior groups which were won by Adam Legge, in the higher rated section and Brian Lim in the other group.
Alan Borwell played in the Scotland Senior Team (four players) in the European Seniors Team Championship in Dresden, during February and of the 78 teams participating, Scotland achieved a 6th= placing, the highest position achieved by any Scottish Chess team for over 30 years! The event was won by Russia with a quartet of very strong Grandmasters, with England in 30th place and Wales 42nd. The other Scotland team members came from Edinburgh, Dunbar and Glasgow.
For information about the club and its activities, please visit the Club’s website at www.carsechess.gs (changed) or contact

Another great result for Abernyte!
The Game Bird and The Bearded T * t (aka Libby Findlay & Steve Brand)competed in the Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon this weekend. It was an incredible day although the weather was somewhat against us.
With over 300 competitors in total making up over 150 teams we really didn't expect to do all that well but confounded even our wildest hopes by coming 13th overall and 1st in the mixed team category with Libby recording the fastest female finishing time by over an hour. Our finishing time was 10 hours and 57 minutes!!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout our fundraising endeavours we have raised over £3500 which is fantastic.
Many thanks again
Libby & Steve (The Game Bird & The Bearded T * t)
