Lunch Club News PDF Print E-mail

20 Luncheon Club members spent a very pleasant afternoon at Teen Ranch where they enjoyed afternoon tea and given a guided tour of the house. Hardy members braved the cold winds and rain to wander round the impressive grounds, which are immaculately maintained. Thank you Teen Ranch.

At the Inchture Fete last year The Luncheon Club ran a Biscuit Stall which was very successful –so successful we have volunteered to organise another one this year. Donations of packets of biscuits will be most welcome. Either bring them to the next Luncheon Club on May 25th May or leave them at The Post Office prior to the Fete.

Remember to notify Mamie, 686691, Anne, 686656, or Jennifer at the Post Office if you intend coming for lunch by Wed. 20 May

We will meet on June 29 (places to be reserved by Wed. June 24 for the last Luncheon Club of the session.

The new session will begin on Sept. 28th

Planning Application Pitkindie Farm House PDF Print E-mail

An application has been submitted to Perth And Kinross Council to demolish the existing farm house at Pitkindie and to replace it with a modern home.

An outline of the proposal submitted to P&K can be downloaded from here, or if you wish to view all the associated documents they are available on the Perth Planning website here.

As far as I can determine this is not an application upon which the comments of Abernyte resisdents are being sought.

Active Kids PDF Print E-mail

We are hoping to get a bit of an active evening going for kids of all ages at the playing field. At the moment we have football going on a Thursday but nothing for the kids who don’t want to play football.

We would welcome any input from anyone of any age who may have an idea they would like to see up and running.  We'd also love some of the older kids in the community to come and get involved with helping us run these ideas.  In fact we'd really love to see you put your idea into action and will give you loads of help and support to do it, so get thinking and planning and let’s be hearing from you all.

Register your septic tank PDF Print E-mail

Reminder to septic tank and small sewage treatment work owners: register for free until 31 May
The following article is from SEPA's website and is a last reminder to all who have septic drainage:

Scotland's environment watchdog is reminding people with septic tanks and small sewage treatment works (STW)1 that the registration fee is being waived until 31 May.

Registration normally attracts a one-off fee of £103, or £76 for an online application, but the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is suspending the fee until the end of May. This means people whose properties have septic tanks or small STW can register for the cost of a phone call, postage stamp or, if they apply online, just £1.

The register of septic tanks and small STW provides SEPA with information about sewage treatment systems in areas of Scotland not connected to main sewer networks. This helps the development of long term strategies for protecting Scotland's environment.

Well managed septic tanks in appropriate conditions provide suitable sewage treatment without damaging the environment. Poorly maintained tanks can, however, cause pollution and significant problems for neighbouring properties and communities.

SEPA's Director of Environmental Protection and Improvement, Colin Bayes, says:

"Waiving the fee during April and May has several advantages. It saves septic tank and small STW owners money and it encourages owners to ensure their system is legally registered, which is an important consideration when it comes to buying and selling properties. It also raises awareness of the importance of looking after septic tanks.

"My plea to everyone whose property has a septic tank or small STW is to register it with us. Registration is a one-off task and there are no future fees to be paid. As long as you look after your tank you may never have to hear from us again!"

A copy of the form required to register your septic tank can be downloaded from www.abernyte.org by clicking here

Update from webmaster. The following is taken from the SEPA website regarding consent for discharge of sewage: Existing discharges previously regulated by a consent issued under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 (CoPA) were deemed to be already authorised under CAR on 1 April 2006. If you hold CoPA consent, you do not need to apply again under CAR. To check if your discharge has CoPA consent, please contact your local SEPA office to request a search of our records.

Conficker - C Virus PDF Print E-mail
Many of you will have seen or heard in the press of a new computer virus called Conficker.C which has been causing a fair bit of bother in large computer networks across the world. It has been spreading rapidly due to the common use of USB memory sticks.

It has also infected huge numbers of home PCs, of which the owners are as yet unaware. The virus has been programmed to start to contact servers around the world on April 1st. ( no -  this is not an April Fools joke) and it is likely to generate a lot of media interest.

Among its nasty tricks is that it blocks access to anti virus programmes to clean any infected PC.

The main message is don't panic as 54% of infected machines are outside the UK. It should only effect PCs with a Microsoft Windows operating system that is unpatched. All users should ensure that Windows is fully updated by visiting Microsoft Update at http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us, and ensure they have applied Microsoft Patch 958644.

Should any www.abernyte.org user find they may be infected with the Conficker virus and they cannot remove it or their anti virus software is disabled by it, they can contact the webmaster on 01828 686677 where a Conficker.C removal tool is available.
