New West window in Church PDF Print E-mail

After countless years of faithful service,  the west stained glass window of Abernyte Church had succumbed to the effects of the weather and required replacing. Roland Mitton of Forgandenny was commissioned to design a window in keeping with the beauty and antiquity of the building. The new window,  now installed is a simple design incorporating the four seasons. It is a light airy window with the many tones blending sympathetically together.

Abernyte Church is open at all times, so do call in to inspect the window and enjoy the peacful atmosphere of the church.

The church in Abernyte is home to a thriving congregation of the Church of Scotland and occupies a quite beautiful building of some antiquity. {mosimage}

There is mention of Abernyte Church in records as far back as 1444. The west gable bears the date 1673, but after a 1736 renovation it was again altered to its present cruciform shape in 1837.

Abernyte Church Spring Clean PDF Print E-mail

Our Church is gleaming!    Yes!   That is the latest news from Abernyte.

A huge Thank You to all those ?hard-hatted? men who abseiled from the rafters, wielding mops and brooms to get rid of 10 years grime and dust from rafters and walls.  They moved chairs and cleared the decks on Friday night in preparation for all the ladies who turned up on Saturday morning to scrub, clean and hoover.   It was hard work but those who took part did it with goodwill and a smile.

So ...? Many thanks to one and all ???  especially Ron Neville who provided hospitality on Friday evening and to Liz and Graeme Foubister who supplied a well earned lunch on Saturday.

SEE YOU ALL AGAIN NEXT YEAR!

Linda Kehrer

CH4 Hymn Books PDF Print E-mail

CH4 Hymn Books

The Congregational Board has decided to introduce the new Church of Scotland CH4 Hymn Book to Abernyte Church by Christmas.  We are buying them, with a generous discount, from The Manna House in Perth.  Should you wish to buy one (and what a good Christmas present it would make!) Margaret, our efficient treasurer, is prepared to order them for you if you contact her.  A  Words Only edition is approximately ?10.00, a full musical copy ?27.00

Many of the old favourite hymns, which were omitted from CH3, together with modern new hymns have been incorporated into a wider range of hymns in the new book. We look forward to familiarising ourselves with them.
