“Joseph Knight” Black Slave of Ballindean
James Robertson paints a vivid picture of life in Ballindean, Dundee , Edinburgh and Jamaica during the period 1762-1803 in his book “Joseph Knight”. He describes events surrounding the last slave trial in Scotland when a negro slave successfully sued his owner, John Wedderburn of Ballindean , for his freedom and directly influenced the end of slavery in Scotland.
James Robertson’s precise research has resulted in a fascinating story (fact and fiction) of great local interest. James lives in Newtyle and his talk will be an insight into local and Scottish history and of interest to all .
All welcome.
