Introduction Since the company was formed and we thought the members might appreciate a report on the activities undertaken to date.
Inaugural General Meeting At the well attended inaugural general meeting on 6 September, 2006 members elected directors and suggested particular areas they wished to see the company progress Directors elected were: Dale Dickinson Gerard McGoldrick Malcolm McSwan Gordon Nicoll Mark Petrie Helen Richardson
Directors meetings Three meetings of the directors have been held so far. Activities to date are detailed below:
Communication and Contact In addition to ensuring all the requisite paperwork to establish and run the company has been completed we have been ensuring that we maintain a comprehensive list of members and their preferred contact arrangements. Fortunately many of you are happy to use email which greatly reduces funding issues for the company.
For those with access to the internet copies of the memorandum and articles and minutes of meetings are available under the Abernyte Community Company page on the Abernyte.org website at www.abernyte.org If you do not have internet access please contact any of the directors above who will be happy to supply a copy. An outline communications strategy and stakeholder management proposals have been prepared.
Register of Interest In accordance with the wishes of the members the application to register an interest in the playing field should it come up for sale has been completed and forwarded to the Scottish Executive for their consideration.
Environmental Improvements Some progress has been made in starting to define a project. An initial survey of trees and hedges is planned to assess scope and requirements. Contact is being maintained with various other organisations such as the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group and grant awarding bodies.
Joint Meeting with Abernyte Heritage Group At the AGM of Abernyte Heritage Group in November, the grant received from the Abernyte Heritage Group that supported the establishment of Abernyte Community Company was gratefully acknowledged. A joint meeting is planned to define areas of mutual benefit. Any resulting proposals for change will require to be considered before both organisations’ Boards.
Funding Application A budget has been prepared to support applications for funding the operations of Abernyte Community Company. An application has been submitted to Perth Grants Direct for their consideration.
Conclusion I would wish to record my thanks to all the directors who not only give up their free time on a voluntary basis to participate in the work of the Community Company but also generously invite directors to their homes for company meetings. Your hospitality is much appreciated. Any member that wishes further information on any of the points contained within this newsletter is encouraged to contact any director named above.
