September, 2007 new Directors of the Company were appointed. The
Directors of the Company are:
Dale Dickinson, Malcolm McSwan, Gordon Nicoll, Mark Petrie, Helen
Richardson and Sue Vardy

2. Grant from Perth Grants Direct
Last year Abernyte Community Company's application for funding to Perth
Grants Direct was successful and the company was awarded a grant of ?840
to support our work. Mark Petrie is Treasurer for the Company and presented
the Financial Statement on work to date at the AGM. Since then funds have
been expended on updating the website, the purchase of safety equipment,
provision of funds for future planting, public liability insurance and general
administration.
A report on the expenditure to date has been submitted to Perth & Kinross
Council with a proposal to carry forward any surplus to the next financial year.

3. Environmental Improvements
Budgetary provision has been made for a demonstration/pilot scheme of

roadside tree planting once suitable sites and landowners agreement had

been achieved.

4. Website: www.Abernyte.org
Have you had a look at the refreshed website? This has been reorganised
and contains information about the area and up to date details events and
activities taking place locally as well as useful links. You can start a thread
and have your say in the community forum, record your sightings in nature
watch and take part in a poll on traffic safety outside the school. Everyone is
welcome to take part and become involved. If anyone has a topic they want a
local opinion on please contact the Webmaster via the website.

5. Local Links and Activities
Community Council: Our local member Rena Havranek is copied into the
minutes of the Directors meetings can advise the Community Council of any
relevant issues.
Lunch Club: Abernyte Community Company gave full support to the
application for establishing the Lunch Club run monthly in Inchture.

Maintenance of the Millennium Walk: Volunteers braved the elements on 4
May, 2008 to successfully carry out the annual maintenance work at the
Millennium Walk. Thanks to all who turned out to enable us to continue to enjoy
this valuable local asset.
Roadside Verges: A spring clean of the litter from the roadside verges is
proposed and suitable safety equipment is available for all those willing to help.
The damage to the roadside verges caused by the recent increase in large
vehicles has been noted by Perth & Kinross Council and it is anticipated that
this damage will be repaired in the near future.

6.Breathing Places Grant application
Abernyte Community Company have applied to the Big Lottery Fund for a grant
under the Breathing Places programme to make environmental and access
improvements to the Millennium Walk.    This opportunity first arose at the
Heritage Group AGM but the conditions of the application needed a more formal
organisation and structure. The Company was able to meet these criteria and both
organisations agreed that the Company should apply. This demonstrates the
advantage we now have within the community to meet the requirements of
funding bodies.
The planned improvements include: assisting in the development of greater
biodiversity through the installation of bird/bat boxes and the felling of
selected trees and the planting of new trees and shrubs; leveling and
installing an appropriate access path with associated drainage works and
relaying images of fledglings via web cam to the www.Abernyte.org website.
Notice of the decision on the application will be made in June, 2008.

7. Third Annual General Meeting
The third Annual General Meeting for all members of Abernyte Community
Company will be 2 September, 2008 and will be held in Abernyte Primary
School. As well as reporting on work to date and discussing proposals for the
future, an election of two Directors is required.

Please put this date in your diary and I look forward to seeing you all at the
meeting. Hospitality will be provided.
