Thank You:
First of all I would like to thank all those who telephoned, or sent an e-mail or a card to wish me well on my election to be Provost of Perth. It is a great honour, and I will endeavour to represent all the people of Perth & Kinross to the best of my ability, and to promote this wonderful part of Scotland that we live in, whenever and wherever I can.
The election of the Provost for the next four years is the first item of business at the first Council meeting after an election. I was particularly pleased that the election was unanimous and that I received the support of the members of all the political parties in the Council. I mentioned in my acceptance speech that I was delighted to follow in the footsteps of my predecessor as councillor for this area, Mrs Jean McCormick, and that it was remarkable that the Carse has provided two Provosts of Perth in a relatively short time. Multimember ward:  As most people will know, Inchture and District is now part of the Carse of Gowrie ward, which extends from Invergowrie to the Friarton Bridge.  Three councillors were elected – Peter Mulheron and I for the SNP, and Mac Roberts for the Conservatives.  Your three new councillors know each other well, and I have no doubt that we will be able to work together as a team to further the interests of the Carse of Gowrie.  An important matter for all readers to know is that you have a choice of councillor to contact with any problem. Doctors’ surgery, Invergowrie:  A few years ago the surgery at Invergowrie was earmarked for closure. There was an outcry in Invergowrie and Longforgan, and Cllr Peter Mulheron mounted a strong, and eventually a successful campaign to retain the surgery.  However, the link with the Muirhead surgery was broken, and many patients retained their allegiance to the doctors there.  Nevertheless, the list of patients attending Invergowrie has been growing steadily, and it is becoming too small for the full range of services that it now provides.  Soon decisions will have to be made on an extension to the building, or a complete rebuild.  The more patients that are on that surgery’s list, the sooner, and easier that decision will be.
