Carse of Gowrie Chess Club
Meet on Thursday evenings at Inchture Hotel  September to April

The Carse of Gowrie Chess Club concluded another enjoyable season before Easter and will resume again on Thursday 6th September in Inchture Hotel.

The A team finished in an excellent third place in TAFCA League Division 1 and the B and C teams had several encouraging performances in Division 2.  In the strong Scottish National League, the Club also finished in third place in Division 4, but will need to wait until next season to see whether it is promoted.

The official Chess Scotland grading list now contains a remarkable number of 29 Carse of Gowrie CC players, including 19 juniors!  This has been achieved by players participating in club championships, league games and congresses.

The Junior Championship was won by Adam Legge (age10) with 11.5 pts. from 13 games, closely followed by Jamie Lamont with 11/14, Hermes Manos 10/13, Declan Shafi (age 6!), 8/10 Cameron Conway 8/13, ahead of 15 other juniors.

The two senior Championship sections were not completed but Alan Borwell and Amy Officer in Section 1 and Rajen Lavingia, John and Lewis MacDonald in Section 2 were undefeated. Three enjoyable rapid chess events were held.

In the Perth & District Primary Schools competition, Inchture failed narrowly to reach the Final, despite Jamie Lamont and Adam Legge winning all of their games and Abernyte, Errol and St. Madoes Schools also performed creditably. In a special Carse of Gowrie tournament, hosted by Abernyte School, Inchture were the impressive winners on an afternoon enjoyed by all of the 32 players. A new Cup was kindly obtained by Abernyte School, to be presented annually.

There was a weekly average of 15 juniors attending coaching and practice (Thursday evenings from 6.30pm). These sessions are followed by normal club evenings, when Club Championships and TAFCA League matches take place.

All standards of chess player, from beginners to experts, are most welcome to come along to enhance their understanding, playing ability and enjoyment of the game of chess in very comfortable and ideal premises at Inchture Hotel.
