Abernyte Community Company Six Monthly Report to members: August 2007 Directors of Abernyte Community Company have continued to meet and progress issues on behalf of members. Updates for each area are given below. 1. Register of Interest Following Abernyte Community Company?s application to register an interest in the playing field should it come up for sale and the consultation of interested parties by the Scottish Executive, Abernyte Community Company has been advised that Scottish Ministers have approved the application. The playing field has now been included in the Register of Community Interests in Land. In reaching their decision Scottish Ministers were satisfied that there was sufficient level of support within the community to justify registration and that it would contribute positively to the sustainable development and general well being of the community through the provision of local amenity land and an improved environment. This will only be triggered if the land comes up for sale. 2. Award of Grant Abernyte Community Company application for funding to Perth Grants Direct was successful and the company was awarded a grant of ?840 to support our work. Abernyte Community Company has made appropriate banking arrangements and Mark Petrie has agreed to act as Treasurer for the Company. 3. Environmental Improvements Perthshire and Angus Tree Lines project funded by the Forestry Commission and Scottish Natural Heritage and promoted by Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group is aimed at rejuvenating existing tree lines. A successful application will attract 50% of the cost of up to 35 native trees, tubes and stakes. Our grant funding means that ACC can offer to cover the remaining 50% cost. Discussions are ongoing with local land owners to determine interest and support for this important environmental improvement. 4. Website Following a spate of attacks on the community forum additional security measures have been put in place. These included more robust software protection and members log in. This required a temporary closure of the forum however work was undertaken quickly and any inconvenience kept to a minimum with the forum back on line within days. A refreshed and updated website has been launched at www.abernyte.org. Abernyte Community Company has a page that contains information on our aims and objectives, the articles of association together with minutes of the first Annual General meeting and the first six monthly report. 5. Abernyte Heritage Group: working together Representatives of Abernyte Heritage Group and Abernyte Community Company met to discuss how best both organisations could support local activities. It was proposed that Abernyte Community Company take responsibility for the running and management of the website and both organisations will share equally the costs of public liability insurance. 6. Welcome to Abernyte brochure A leaflet has been prepared to welcome new residents to Abernyte and inform them of what is available in the local area.
