ABERNYTE HERITAGE GROUP MINUTES OF THE 19TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 14th November 2007. 26 Members in attendance Apologies; Alan & Sue Vardy, Hamish & Margaret Carr, Mark& Sarah Petrie, Norman& Denise Alm, Tony & Betty Pepper
Minutes of the 18th AGM; The meeting approved these. Proposed John Barton, seconded Barry Caudwell. Presidents Report Anne Davies reviewed the year?s activities and thanked the committee members and the community for their continuing support in what had been a busy and successful year. She pointed out that it was now 20 years since the Group started and she recounted the many achievements over the years the most recent being the digitising by the National Archives of Scotland of Winter?s Map of 1747, this is the earliest map of Abernyte. The members joined her in toasting the Past ,Present and Future of the Abernyte Heritage Group. Treasurers Report In the absence of the Treasurer, Margaret Carr, Malcolm McSwan presented the Accounts for the period to 14th November. Expenditure was lower than usual partly due to the Community Company paying for the web site costs, and a surplus for the period of ?190 was added to the Funds carried forward. It was explained that the balance in the Group fund was simply the result of a number of years of surplus and Grants or Donations for specific purposes were always retained for those purposes. The Accounts were approved by the meeting. Election of Office Bearers The President explained that Rena Havranek would like to stand down and reduce her commitments. The President thanked her for her contribution over the years and Barry Caudwell was proposed to join the committee. Barry agreed and was unanimously elected. All of the other office bearers and committee members were available for re-election and as there were no other nominations they were re-elected.
Millenium Glebe Walk. Malcolm McSwan reported that the annual maintenance session was well supported and a similar event will be planned in the early Spring. The picnic site has been established and it is hoped a suitable bench will be procured for 2008. Field Names. This is an ongoing activity. Members are asked to pass on any names and memories to assist the compilation of the old field names in the area . Oral History. Mary Young advised the meeting that the she was now drafting the last chapter of the book. Some interest had been expressed by potential publishers and this will be pursued. In answer to questions she explained that printing alone would cost from ?1500 to ?3000 but the plan is to involve a publisher who will promote the book and secure some outlets as well as assist in printing. There are a number of potential sources of funds if we have to share the publication and printing. Members suggested that the Fergusson gallery and St. Andrews University (the Valentine collection) could be sources of further photographs. The meeting thanked Mary for her continuing efforts and looked forward to help in the launch. Web Site. Gordon Nicoll reported on the progress of the web site and was congratulated on the recent updating .He asked members to ensure they log in for registration and asked the committee to consider making the various publications available on the site. Whats On . Stephen Hole reported that there were now over 100 participants and this had now become an essential part of the village communication system. Stephen was thanked for his continuing involvement and members asked how we managed without Whats On in the past. The President explained that we used to have a village shop!! Scrap Book. Tony Pepper continues to compile and maintain the scrapbooks and welcomes any cuttings, programmes, photographs etc. The President encouraged all members of the community to continue to feed information to Tony but it was agreed that a replacement compiler was required so Tony could hand on this activity. It was agreed the committee would find a volunteer. FUTURE PROGRAMME The President led an open discussion covering the following: Parish Walk. The annual walk will be held in the last week of March 2008. The committee will organise a route and advise those interested well in advance Winter Lecture This has been arranged for Monday the 17th March 2008. We have secured Morag Redford, the Vice Convenor of the Scottish Place-Name Society, who will talk on Place Names with particular reference to Abernyte, the Carse and the Braes of the Carse. A good attendance is expected for a subject which will interest many members. Annual BBQ. It is planned to continue holding the BBQ on the first Friday of the school Autumn term.. Carse of Gowrie Paths Project. John Barton reported that the Project was now divided into 9 areas and he was co- ordinator for Abernyte. There is a new Project Officer , a web site (Carse of Gowrie Group) and some draft proposals which will be brought forward for consultation . Trees and Hedgerows Malcolm McSwan reported that not much progress had been made but specific proposals will be prepared over the next few months. OTHER BUSINESS Barry Caudwell drew the meetings attention to the Breathing Places funding program linked to the tv series Autumn Watch. After discussion it was agreed to get further details and consider an application. The President closed the meeting and thanked all attending. A Pot Luck supper followed illustrated by projections of some of the collection of local photographs.
